Junk Drawer

By Linda Swaim

Our Junk Drawer, by Mrs. Swaim

Do you have a junk drawer? Of course, and it just goes to show you that there IS such a thing as a dumb question!

If you are like me, you probably have several, or at least one in every room. Why is this? Why do we tend to accumulate junk so quickly and so consistently? No matter how hard we try, chaos is working against us.

Hypothetically, one day you get extra ambitious. You take that junk drawer, and you turn it upside down. Now you have a mess, which is contrary to the very reason for having a junk drawer, instead of a dirty little secret. You sort and pick and throw things out and you organize the rest. You are proud and organized and happy. For about 5 minutes. Somehow the next time you open it, chaos has invaded your drawer again.

But what if, once a week, you opened the drawer, quickly looked for what didn’t belong, threw it out or put it in its place, 3 minutes max, and you did it without fail? You probably would not ever have to dump the drawer out again.

Folks, this analogy is comparable to how our nervous system works. It accumulates garbage all the time. How? From the things we eat, the toxins we breath, the thoughts we think (yes, they affect our health. Watch the movie Inside Out), the traumas we suffer, both big and small, are all potential unwanted items in your junk drawer. Your nervous system collects all this stuff and stores it. And sometimes you just need to clean things out, reboot, and start fresh. Proverbially, turn the nervous system drawer upside down.

One way to dump out the drawer is to get chiropractic care.

If you ever wonder what is going on while I am checking your spine using the Activator Method, checking your leg length and pumping your knees, here is your answer: I am checking your nervous system. Looking for junk in your junk drawer. And the reason it takes time to get results using chiropractic is that our junk drawers are full most of the time.

Just for fun let’s say you have come to us for some dysfunction, like you can’t hold a coffee cup or swing a golf club or sleep at night. We examine you, make a plan, and get to work. Let’s also say you managed to follow the plan and now your pain and dysfunction are a memory. What now?

Get adjusted regularly! Usually once a week will do it, and your nervous system junk drawer will stay in good working order. 3 minutes a week max.

For those of you who think they cannot afford regular care, let me tell you, with the maintenance plans we have in place, you can. And let me tell you also that keeping your junk drawer cleaned up is way cheaper than letting it go to pot and dumping the whole thing out on the floor again!

Keep it simple.

Cheers,

ks

Boy howdy! This is so true. As I type this I'm hacking from all of the damage done by the wildfire smoke this year. I'm thinking a couple visits to you will help my body do it's job of expelling the phlegm.
