Hello friends!
It’s Abbey here today, and this month we’re talking to you about stress! Ever met her? If she sometimes seems like a companion, you just can’t quite get rid of, never fear! That’s what we’re going to chat about! I know that you likely would prefer that I was going to give you a solution to making all the stress in your life disappear, but luckily for all of us, I am not that powerful. What I will suggest this month are some ways that we can help the body combat the stress it undergoes, so that you aren’t just surviving it, but actually thriving. Today, we’ll start with the Standard Process product Drenamin, and the adrenal glands. Let’s get to it.
What:
Drenamin is a combination product that includes vitamins C, B2 (sometimes called G), and a product that Standard Process calls Drenatrophin PMG. (PMGs are protomorphogens, and your body views them the same as the cells you produce for a particular tissue. More on that at a different time). The full complex of vitamin C found in foods includes not only the piece called ascorbic acid, but also factors J, K, and P, as well as tyrosinase, an organic copper containing enzyme. Tyrosinase, and organic copper in general, are adrenal activators, so this complete whole food form is good support. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), as I’ve mentioned before, has a vasodilating effect, meaning it lowers your blood pressure. This is great when we are dealing with chronic stress, which ramps you up. Lastly, the Drenatrophin PMG supports the adrenal cells themselves. It’s adrenal extract, so it works by giving your body something to start repairing itself with. All in all, this is a very complete support product.
How:
These are big stinking tablets, so generally we recommend 2 per day. If we’re working to replenish your adrenals from lots of stress or fatigue, you might take 3-4 for a few weeks before we back it off. To get the best results and better absorption we recommend chewing them. Make sure you have some water nearby because Drenamin is a mouthful!
Where:
These are always on the shelf in the office (no shipping fee!) or on our website here.
Why:
Alright, this is usually about the place where we start asking, what’s the point? Sure, it sounds like a great product, but why do I care about my adrenal glands? I’m so glad you asked! Your adrenal glands sit just on top of your kidneys, and they are the primary production site for the hormones that our bodies use in response to stress. Think, fight or flight, adrenaline, cortisol. I know that over the last few years cortisol has gotten a bit of a bad rap, as something that is causing health issues for people. We need to be clear: cortisol is not a bad thing. It is your body’s natural response to stress. But when it is elevated for too long too often, bad things start to happen. This is how we wear down the adrenal glands, leading to fatigue, lowered immune function, and poor metabolism. Basically, we need to make sure we’re giving our adrenal glands a little love, particularly after we’ve been through a stressful season of life. Drenamin has the components to help us do that.
Next week, Dr. Swaim is going to give you a bit more in-depth conversation about your adrenal glands, so stay tuned. And like I say every time, we are not looking to throw a million different supplements at your body. To quote US Olympic hockey coach Herb Brooks in one of my favorite movies of all time (Miracle), “I’m not looking for the best players…I’m looking for the right ones.” We want to find the nutrients that are going to work best with your body. Give us a call, and we’ll set up a time to chat.
Cheers to a journey towards health,
Abbey, BS, CNC
